Shape the future of system software at the kernel level by leading upstream-first development for advanced CPU and SoC architectures. In this role, you'll ensure new silicon platforms are fully supported in mainline Linux, from initial design through long-term maintenance. You'll work directly with key maintainers and contribute to the evolution of the kernel ecosystem.
What You'll Do
- Lead the development and integration of kernel infrastructure for emerging silicon, prioritizing upstream acceptance from the start.
- Collaborate with subsystem maintainers and open-source contributors to land and sustain critical kernel features.
- Guide the full lifecycle of kernel innovations—from concept and implementation to review, integration, and ongoing support.
- Partner with hardware, firmware, GPU, and networking teams to define system software requirements for future platforms.
- Bring external insights from the Linux community into internal design discussions, influencing hardware interfaces and architecture decisions.
- Contribute code, lead design discussions, and provide technical mentorship within the broader open-source ecosystem.
What We're Looking For
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 18+ years of hands-on work in systems software or Linux kernel development.
- Established presence in the Linux community—such as a frequent contributor, subsystem maintainer, or recognized technical authority.
- Proven track record of successfully upstreaming complex kernel features and navigating community review processes.
- Strong grasp of kernel internals and modern upstream development workflows.
- Ability to connect hardware design with kernel-level implementation needs.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience bridging internal engineering teams and open-source communities.
- Resilience and precision when diagnosing and resolving deep system-level issues.
Technology Environment
Linux kernel, upstream development workflows, CPU/SoC architecture, firmware integration, GPU computing systems, high-performance networking.
