About the Role

Lila Sciences is seeking a Director of Design to be a strategic part of our product and industrial design efforts. You will shape user journeys across the Lila App and Autonomous Science labs, working to unify features into an intuitive and efficient application for science.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver on key initiatives for the execution of a coherent, brand-aligned design across digital and physical products.
  • Contribute to the end-to-end design of the native app that powers scientists.
  • Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that translate user needs into clear interfaces.
  • Build a cohesive design system, including components, guidelines, and documentation for consistency and scalability.
  • Establish collaborative feedback loops with engineers, data scientists, and product managers to refine and implement designs.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in digital product design, preferably in SaaS or data-intensive applications.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating a range of work from research and wireframing to polished visual designs.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, and modern LLM-generated rapid prototypes.
  • Deep understanding of interaction design, information architecture, and accessibility best practices.
  • Extreme openness to leveraging the latest AI tools to redefine your profession.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset, able to present and iterate on designs based on feedback.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in life sciences, biotech, or scientific research software.
  • Familiarity with data visualization libraries or principles (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js, Plotly).
  • Basic front-end prototyping skills (HTML/CSS/JavaScript).
  • Prior involvement in building or scaling a design system.
