Role Overview
This Senior Designer position shapes product development within the Toys & Hardlines categories for a global entertainment-led consumer products division. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Product Design Studio, the role guides design execution from concept through to production, ensuring alignment with brand standards, franchise priorities, and regional market needs across ANZ, Southeast Asia, and India.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and development across the full product lifecycle, including concept creation, CAD review, sampling, packaging, and production readiness.
- Evaluate toy functionality, safety, materials, and manufacturing constraints to ensure feasible, high-quality outcomes.
- Provide clear, visually driven design direction to licensees, retailers, and agents, aligned with property guidelines and business objectives.
- Apply deep knowledge of materials, 3D form, 2D composition, and production techniques specific to hardline and toy products.
- Track consumer trends, competitive offerings, and emerging technologies to inform innovative product concepts and line extensions.
- Develop compelling design presentations and support cross-functional alignment in key development meetings.
- Ensure consistent storytelling, character application, and brand integrity across all product submissions.
- Collaborate with internal teams across Franchise, Legal, Retail, and Category Management to maintain strategic alignment.
- Act as the primary design and product development contact for external partners, managing communication across multiple time zones and language barriers.
- Balancing creative vision with cost structures, minimum order quantities, retail pricing, and production timelines.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in consumer product design, licensing, or manufacturing within the toys or hardlines space.
- Strong illustration and design skills with proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and presentation software.
- Ability to interpret 2D artwork into 3D product forms and understand technical constraints in tooling and production.
- Results-driven with strong organizational skills and attention to detail in fast-moving, multi-market environments.
- Effective communicator capable of presenting design rationale and building consensus across diverse teams.
- Familiarity with licensed entertainment brands and the consumer products landscape.
- Degree in Toy Design, Industrial Design, Illustration, or a related field is preferred.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role with responsibilities spanning international markets. The designer will manage projects across varying time zones and collaborate with partners for whom English may not be a first language.
