Responsibilities
- Define and document the technical direction for the engagement, guiding it to a clearly agreed end state.
- Collaborate with client technical leads on architecture design, implementation sequence, and risk management, ensuring decisions are finalized promptly.
- Advocate for optimal technical solutions based on proven delivery experience, clearly identifying when a customer's chosen path poses risks.
- Conduct direct reviews of system designs, code, and infrastructure-as-code artifacts to establish and maintain high engineering standards.
- Document key architectural decisions, including evaluated trade-offs and those intentionally postponed.
- Work with engagement leadership and clients to build realistic project plans with clear milestones and dependencies.
- Ensure teams are properly staffed with necessary skills and proactively escalate resourcing issues.
- Coach team members to improve technical proficiency, delivery rigor, and client interaction capabilities.
- Be accountable for the quality and timely delivery of the engagement, resolving blockers and leading recovery efforts when needed.
- Coordinate technical delivery with partner consultants and third-party vendors using Agile methodologies.
- Support efficient use of AWS and partner resources while contributing to the evolution of delivery frameworks.
- Design and implement AWS foundational environments using Control Tower and Landing Zone Accelerator.
- Establish multi-account strategies using AWS Organizations, including organizational unit structure, account provisioning, service control policies, and centralized monitoring.
- Deploy IAM, Identity Center, security baselines, and governance controls across the multi-account structure.
- Lead discovery and assessment of on-premises systems, including dependency analysis, sizing, and migration sequencing.
- Determine and guide migration approaches per workload—balancing speed, risk, and long-term cost—using rehost or replatform strategies.
- Manage the replication of on-premises and VMware workloads to EC2, including image conversion and OS-level adjustments.
- Lead the migration of self-managed services to AWS managed alternatives, such as databases to RDS and load balancers to ALB/NLB.
- Design and implement hybrid connectivity solutions using Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Transit Gateway, DNS, and Active Directory.
- Oversee the migration of storage and databases using AWS tools like DMS, DataSync, Storage Gateway, and Snow Family, ensuring data integrity.
- Establish standards for infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and operational readiness before production deployment.
- Create comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture designs, migration runbooks, decision records, and handover materials.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of infrastructure design and operations experience, including at least 3 years leading technical workstreams in client-facing roles.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Proven hands-on experience building production AWS environments, not limited to oversight roles.
- Experience defining technical strategy and aligning with customer technical stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience implementing AWS foundational services such as Control Tower, Landing Zone Accelerator, and multi-account architectures.
- Demonstrated involvement in cloud migration initiatives, especially large-scale, multi-phase projects.
- Practical experience executing rehost and replatform migrations with sound judgment on approach selection.
- Direct experience using AWS Migration Hub, AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), and VM Import/Export.
- Strong understanding of AWS networking, including VPC, routing, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, and DNS.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and AWS CDK, plus scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Ability to conduct detailed code and infrastructure-as-code reviews, not just high-level design evaluation.
- Must hold an active AWS certification; AWS Solutions Architect – Professional or DevOps Engineer – Professional is preferred.
