Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced technical support for Oracle and PostgreSQL database systems
- Support cloud-based database services including EC2 and Aurora RDS for Oracle and PostgreSQL
- Serve as primary responder for high-severity, complex production database issues
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve database incidents efficiently and thoroughly
- Administer Oracle databases in Unix and Linux operating systems
- Manage multiple Oracle and PostgreSQL database environments to ensure 24x7 availability for critical applications
- Demonstrate deep understanding of Oracle RAC in versions 11g and later
- Execute project-related database tasks such as DDL creation, cloning, data refreshes, and performance optimization
- Implement and maintain database backup and recovery processes using tools like RMAN and NAS storage
- Work with development teams to diagnose and resolve application performance issues related to databases
- Lead backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning initiatives
- Develop and maintain operating system scripts, including UNIX shell, for database automation and maintenance
- Maintain data integrity and system consistency by adhering to change control, security, and backup protocols
- Help develop and document database standards, procedures, and best practices
- Proactively detect and resolve potential database issues before they impact operations
- Take ownership of database problems and coordinate with internal teams for root cause analysis and resolution
- Interface with vendors by opening service tickets and escalating issues as needed
- Address recurring database problems through structured problem management
- Suggest improvements and assist in designing long-term database solutions
- Respond to stakeholder inquiries regarding performance, errors, storage, and capacity
- Participate in building new systems by setting up databases, schemas, monitoring jobs, and access controls
- Ensure systems are supportable through proper documentation and handoff processes before production launch
- Follow established change and incident management procedures
- Utilize Shared Services tools to log, track, and resolve technical issues
- Create and maintain technical documentation for future troubleshooting and knowledge sharing
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Three years of IT experience, including at least two years as a DBA with Oracle or PostgreSQL
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and communication skills with a focus on customer service
- Experience in database performance monitoring and tuning
- Knowledge of storage systems such as NAS and SAN
- Ability to troubleshoot effectively under pressure
- Extensive experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
- Capacity to quickly learn and adapt to evolving database technologies
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate in teams and work independently toward goals
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as shell, Python, or Perl
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and services
- Hands-on experience with cloud migration, Oracle installation, configuration, and upgrades
- Knowledge of Oracle replication technologies including Data Guard, Streams, and GoldenGate
