This position supports the Information Technology Department by managing and maintaining critical database systems. The Database Administrator I ensures reliable performance, data consistency, and secure access across enterprise platforms. You will work collaboratively within a technical team to support essential government services through effective data management.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, tune, and troubleshoot database performance to maintain system efficiency
- Preserve data accuracy and enforce security protocols across all database environments
- Support the deployment and configuration of Database Management Systems, including patches and upgrades
- Develop and maintain SQL scripts for data manipulation and structural changes
- Assist in implementing and administering cloud and on-site platforms such as SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, Agave, and Team Foundation Server
- Document database designs, processes, and configurations
- Collaborate with IT teams on system integrations, application rollouts, and infrastructure improvements
- Apply PowerShell or similar scripting tools to automate administrative tasks
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required, along with three years of hands-on database administration experience. Alternatively, two years of relevant work within Pima County may satisfy the requirement. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in SQL, MS SQL Server, and scripting, with a solid understanding of database security and performance optimization.
A valid driver license is required at time of application, and an Arizona license must be obtained prior to appointment. The selected candidate will undergo a 39-month DOT motor vehicle review and comprehensive background checks, including verification of employment history, education, and criminal record.
Work Environment
