The RIPE NCC was looking for a Community Development Officer

Shape engagement across the Internet community by serving as a key liaison for technical and policy groups in Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. As a Community Development Officer, you’ll represent the organisation at events, deliver technical talks, and build relationships with stakeholders including network operators, governments, academia, and law enforcement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a public ambassador, introducing the organisation’s mission to new audiences and fostering awareness
  • Deliver presentations on IPv6, BGP, RPKI, routing security, and Internet measurements at regional forums and events
  • Engage with technical communities such as RIPE, NOGs, and IXPs to track emerging trends and share insights
  • Support content creation by contributing technical perspectives to research, articles, and white papers
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver training webinars and workshops
  • Identify and initiate engagement opportunities on critical Internet infrastructure topics
  • Moderate discussions and represent the organisation in policy-relevant technical dialogues

What We’re Looking For

You have a background in networking with hands-on experience in BGP or IPv6, and a strong interest in Internet governance. You’re comfortable speaking publicly, skilled at explaining technical topics clearly, and proactive in building relationships across diverse groups. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required, along with at least three years of relevant technical or policy experience.

Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of Russian, Arabic, Farsi, or Turkish is an asset. You’re flexible with international travel—around 25% of your time—and able to work independently to identify opportunities for outreach and collaboration.

Work Environment & Benefits

This role operates under a hybrid model, based in Amsterdam with flexibility to work remotely and travel internationally. You’ll enjoy 30 vacation days, a generous education budget, and support for health, connectivity, and home office setup. Additional benefits include non-contributory pension coverage, health and wellness allowances, and access to internal training.

The organisation values inclusivity, collaboration, and creativity. You’ll join a skilled, supportive team that values open dialogue and shared purpose. Employees outside the Netherlands receive locally competitive compensation and benefits administered through a local employer of record.
