As a Commissioning Specialist, you will oversee the full technical lifecycle of substation automation projects, from engineering preparation through site commissioning and handover. Your responsibilities include leading field activities for DCS/SCS and RTU systems, ensuring all installations meet technical, safety, and project schedule requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Signal Lists and Interlocking documentation using schematics and PLD diagrams
- Lead on-site and remote commissioning for Substation Automation Systems, including integration, testing, and troubleshooting
- Conduct and supervise FAT, site testing, and system validation for IEC61850 IEDs, SCADA, and NCC/DCC systems
- Manage configuration and backup of industrial PCs, switches, GPS units, and cybersecurity components
- Prepare and maintain as-built drawings, connectivity records, IP plans, and system labels
- Lead the design and implementation of Substation LAN networks, including firewalls, routers, and satellite clocks
- Coordinate EHS compliance, ensure proper PPE availability, and support safe work practices
- Report progress to engineering leads and maintain clear communication with stakeholders
- Support project planning, resource allocation, and ensure high billable utilization
- Ensure customer commitments on delivery, quality, and documentation timelines are met
Qualifications and Skills
You hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering and have at least six years of experience with industrial control systems, including DS Agile, PACiS, GPG, G500, and D2xx RTUs. You understand substation automation principles, including interlocking logic and IED integration using IEC61850, DNP3, IEC101/104, and ModBUS protocols.
Proficiency in HMI platforms such as GPG, AVIEW, or Zenon is preferred. Familiarity with cybersecurity in substation environments and experience with network troubleshooting are essential. Strong documentation, communication, and analytical skills are required, along with fluency in English. The role involves onsite work in Oman with remote support for UAE sites, and relocation assistance is provided.
