About the Role

The Coding Quality Specialist will monitor, review, and evaluate medical coding practices to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies, identifying areas for improvement and supporting ongoing education for coding staff.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular audits of coded clinical records to verify accuracy and completeness
  • Evaluate coding practices against current regulatory guidelines and organizational standards
  • Identify discrepancies in coding documentation and recommend corrective actions
  • Collaborate with coding teams to resolve complex or ambiguous cases
  • Support the development and delivery of coding education and training programs
  • Track and report coding quality metrics to leadership and compliance teams
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in coding guidelines and regulations
  • Assist in the implementation of coding updates and policy revisions
  • Work cross-functionally with clinical and billing departments to improve documentation practices
  • Provide feedback to coders to enhance individual and team performance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific coding requirements
  • Participate in internal and external audits as needed
  • Contribute to process improvements in coding workflows and systems
  • Monitor trends in coding errors and recommend targeted interventions
  • Support the organization’s commitment to data integrity and regulatory compliance
  • Utilize coding software and electronic health record systems efficiently
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient and organizational data
  • Prepare detailed reports on audit findings and quality outcomes
  • Serve as a resource for coding best practices across departments
  • Stay current with industry developments in medical coding and health information management
