About the Role
This position involves conducting source inspections using coordinate measuring machines to verify that components meet engineering specifications, primarily at supplier facilities or remotely. The inspector ensures compliance with quality standards and supports production timelines.
Responsibilities
- Perform on-site and remote inspections of machined parts using CMM equipment
- Verify conformance to engineering drawings and geometric tolerances
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality discrepancies
- Document inspection results with detailed reports
- Support first article inspections and production lot releases
- Identify non-conformances and initiate corrective actions
- Ensure measurement systems are calibrated and valid
- Review manufacturing processes for compliance with quality plans
- Work cross-functionally with engineering and supply chain teams
- Maintain accurate records of inspection activities
- Travel to supplier locations as needed
- Assess supplier quality performance and readiness
- Use GD&T to interpret technical specifications
- Validate fixture setups for dimensional accuracy
- Support root cause analysis for part failures
- Ensure adherence to AS9100 and ISO standards
- Communicate inspection requirements to external partners
- Track inspection timelines to support production schedules
- Perform audits of supplier quality documentation
- Recommend process improvements for inspection efficiency
- Utilize 3D inspection data to validate part geometry
- Escalate critical quality issues to internal stakeholders
- Maintain proficiency with current CMM software platforms
- Support new product introductions with inspection planning
- Ensure compliance with internal quality management protocols
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- Certification in CMM operation or metrology
- Experience with FAR-qualified suppliers
- Knowledge of aerospace material specifications
- Experience in rocket or spacecraft manufacturing
