Support older refugees in building stable, healthy lives in a new country through personalized, culturally grounded assistance. As a Caseworker, you’ll work directly with clients to identify goals related to healthcare access, income security, legal status, and social connection, then guide them through available systems with empathy and precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessments that consider language, cultural background, and individual needs in areas like health, housing, and legal status.
- Create and maintain service plans with clear, client-driven objectives—such as enrolling in Medicaid or applying for citizenship—and update them based on progress.
- Assist clients in accessing essential services, including arranging transportation, coordinating interpreter support, and accompanying them to appointments.
- Apply trauma-informed and aging-sensitive practices to ensure interactions respect client autonomy, pace, and lived experience.
- Use plain-language tools and translated materials to improve communication and understanding.
- Conduct regular follow-ups, document outcomes in case management systems, and adjust plans to reflect changing needs.
- Build relationships with community organizations and ethnic associations to expand outreach and strengthen local support networks.
- Support compliance by maintaining accurate records and contributing to donor and internal reporting requirements.
- Engage in team collaboration, professional development, and organizational safeguarding protocols.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field is preferred, though relevant experience may be considered. You bring at least two years of experience in social services case management, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fluency in English are required. A valid driver’s license, personal insurance, and reliable vehicle access are necessary for field visits. Eligibility for an Arizona fingerprint clearance card is mandatory.
Bilingual skills in Spanish, Dari, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, French, or other languages spoken by refugee communities are highly valued. Prior work with older or vulnerable populations is a strong asset, as are public speaking abilities.
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid model, combining office-based work, remote tasks, and field visits within the service area. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed. Physical demands include lifting household supplies or food boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
Values and Compliance
The role upholds core principles of integrity, service, accountability, and equality. All staff are expected to follow ethical guidelines and promote inclusive, respectful practices in every interaction.
