Responsibilities
- Oversee all department operations, including personnel management, to ensure efficient unit performance
- Actively participate in safety initiatives by adhering to protocols, enforcing policies, and engaging in ongoing training
- Carry out all assigned tasks promptly according to established standard operating procedures
- Foster positive and productive relationships with team members across roles
- Identify and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to supervisory staff
- Meet expected standards for work attendance and timeliness
- Comply with all company policies found in the employee handbook and those directed by supervisors
- Attend all required meetings and training sessions as scheduled
- Apply knowledge of artificial insemination methods and follow related protocols accurately
- Reach targeted conception rates for weaned sows or gilts as defined by the facility
- Apply correct practices for monitoring sows during farrowing
- Carry out appropriate care procedures for newborn pigs during the first three days of life
- Apply proper techniques when sorting piglets and fostering them to appropriate sows
- Follow correct procedures for manure feedback practices
- Use prostaglandins correctly according to protocol
- Optimize time management across all assigned duties
- Support inventory control for medical supplies and essential materials
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and management of semen
- Demonstrate understanding of methods used in pregnancy detection and diagnosis
- Know and align work with the unit’s performance targets and operational goals
- Perform maintenance tasks on equipment, facilities, grounds, and manage manure as needed
- Consistently apply approved animal handling practices
- Correctly identify, treat, vaccinate, and apply bio-feedback protocols for ill or injured animals based on health evaluations
- Adhere strictly to all biosecurity protocols applicable to the facility
- Obtain and maintain PQA+ certification
