We're looking for a Backend Tech Lead to lead technical direction and development execution in a fully remote contract position. In this role, you'll take ownership of system architecture, set engineering standards, and deliver end-to-end features with a focus on security, scalability, and operational excellence.
What You'll Do
- Design and refine CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Jenkins to improve deployment reliability
- Develop, test, and deploy containerized services to AWS using Helm on EKS or ECS
- Integrate bot mitigation strategies such as rate limiting, IP allowlisting, and abuse detection
- Ensure system health through monitoring with CloudWatch and Grafana, tracking latency and error budgets
- Implement structured logging and distributed tracing to support debugging and observability
- Optimize performance across databases, caches, queues, and APIs, including indexing, caching strategies, and throughput tuning
- Make architectural decisions guided by simplicity first, scaling only where necessary
- Enforce code quality through reviews, standards, branching practices, and clear definitions of completion
- Break down tasks, estimate effort, resolve blockers, and collaborate with product and business teams on scope
- Mentor developers and promote a culture of clarity, accountability, and technical ownership
What We're Looking For
- Proficiency with .NET, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, and OpenAPI 3
- Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions and containerization via Docker
- Strong background in AWS services including SQS, EventBridge, Lambda, and Celery for async workflows
- At least three years building production-grade systems and two or more in a technical leadership capacity
- Proven experience managing live systems: incident response, monitoring, deployment pipelines
- Solid grasp of authentication flows, RBAC, and security fundamentals aligned with OWASP principles
- Comfort working with event-driven architectures, including retries, idempotency, and schedulers
- Ability to document decisions clearly, evaluate tradeoffs, and communicate effectively with stakeholders
- Fluency in English at an upper-intermediate level or higher
Nice to Have
- Exposure to robotic process automation (RPA), UiPath, or browser automation tools
- Background in AI, ML, or LLM-powered applications, particularly around data extraction or workflow automation
- Backend experience with Python frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask
