About the Role
Manage and mentor a team of backend engineers building scalable systems for video delivery and ad integration. Drive technical planning, system architecture, and cross-team collaboration to ensure reliability and performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of backend engineers in designing and maintaining video infrastructure
- Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to define technical roadmaps
- Oversee the development of ad-serving systems with high availability and low latency
- Mentor engineers in technical growth and career progression
- Ensure code quality through design reviews and best practices
- Drive incident response and post-mortem processes for production systems
- Guide architectural decisions for scalable, maintainable backend services
- Work closely with frontend and data teams to integrate video and ad features
- Manage sprint planning, backlog refinement, and team delivery cycles
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies relevant to video encoding and streaming
- Monitor system performance and lead optimization initiatives
- Coordinate with security and compliance teams on data handling standards
- Support on-call rotations and reliability engineering practices
- Balance technical debt with feature development timelines
- Ensure API contracts meet internal and external service requirements
- Lead efforts in monitoring, alerting, and observability for backend systems
- Promote reuse of shared services and internal tooling
- Drive documentation standards for team-owned systems
- Facilitate knowledge sharing across engineering teams
- Participate in hiring and onboarding of new engineering talent
- Represent the team in cross-functional planning meetings
- Advocate for developer experience and internal platform usability
- Ensure adherence to engineering SLAs and uptime goals
- Support scalability testing and capacity planning for peak traffic
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Experience leading teams in video or advertising domains
- Background in real-time bidding systems
- Knowledge of content delivery networks
- Experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code
- Familiarity with gRPC and protocol buffers
- Exposure to machine learning pipelines in ad targeting
- Contributions to open-source projects
- Public speaking or conference presentations
- Experience scaling systems to millions of daily users
Compensation
$180,000 - $220,000 annually, commensurate with experience
Work Arrangement
Hybrid remote with preferred location in the Eastern or Central time zone
