Responsibilities
- Manages the full lifecycle of the organization’s Azure DevOps environment, including projects, teams, security, permissions, integrations, and licensing.
- Oversees custom process templates based on Agile and CMMI models, maintaining fields, rules, picklists, work-item types, and form designs to enforce data completeness.
- Keeps master project templates updated to reflect changes in the SDLC framework or procedural guidance, serving as reference models for all tiers.
- Sets up new project instances using standardized cloning and customization procedures, verifying correct configuration before team onboarding.
- Develops and sustains reusable queries, visualizations, and dashboards for monitoring traceability, gate readiness, defect trends, compliance, training status, and delivery velocity.
- Manages test plan structures, test suites, configurations, parameters, and shared step libraries; collaborates with QA leads on test-case organization.
- Guides leadership in structuring ADO environments for new teams, advising on boards, area paths, sprint rhythms, team definitions, and reporting layouts.
- Maps SDLC policies, tiering rules, and client-specific needs into actionable Azure DevOps configurations.
- Documents pros and cons of common architectural decisions—such as project structure and team segmentation—to support informed planning and reduce rework.
- Engages in project initiation to validate that ADO setups reflect the correct tier, client constraints, and reporting expectations.
- Configures and maintains Kanban and Sprint boards with appropriate columns, swim lanes, WIP limits, card behaviors, and styling.
- Processes and triages incoming work requests, converting emails or external tickets into properly linked ADO work items.
- Ensures backlog quality through regular reviews of stale items, duplicates, broken links, and missing field data across all work-item types.
- Enforces consistent use of custom fields: tier on Features, requirement type on User Stories, phase on Tasks, severity and origin on Bugs, gate ID on Reviews.
- Conducts periodic audits of ADO configurations against SDLC standards and tier requirements, generating compliance reports for oversight teams.
- Validates bidirectional traceability where required: ensuring each requirement has at least one test case and each defect traces to its source artifact.
- Confirms gate Reviews are created, filled with evidence, and formally approved at key phase transitions, both internal and client-mandated.
- Trains delivery staff, architects, consultants, and QA leads on proper ADO use within the SDLC context; provides onboarding for new team members.
- Supports internal process audits by pre-running compliance queries, identifying gaps, and tracking fixes to resolution.
- Maintains proper area path structures, separating template data from active project data to prevent reporting errors.
- Tracks work-item progression, flagging items stuck in 'Active' state, missing acceptance proof, or closed without required documentation.
- Verifies that team members complete work items with all mandatory fields, correct parent links, test associations, and sufficient detail per tier standards.
- Identifies process deviations early and alerts responsible leads and oversight groups to prevent audit issues or gate failures.
- Preserves cross-system traceability between ADO and external tools like schedules, incident trackers, change systems, and document stores.
- Acts as primary point of contact for ADO support, resolving common issues and escalating complex ones to Microsoft or process owners.
