About the Role

Role Overview

This position involves conducting technical procedures on laboratory animals including mice, rats, rabbits, canines, and non-human primates in support of preclinical research. The technician ensures all activities follow established protocols and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards, contributing to accurate data collection and animal well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized procedures such as clinical observations, body weight measurements, blood collection, dose administration, anesthesia delivery, and euthanasia in accordance with study protocols.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions including SOPs, study schedules, and protocol requirements.
  • Record, enter, and verify raw data from animal studies, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Prepare equipment and supplies for procedures and maintain organized work areas.
  • Operate laboratory instruments such as glucometers, digital thermometers, and Harvard pumps.
  • Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any changes or environmental issues promptly.
  • Support facility operations through routine husbandry tasks and environmental checks.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of standard operating procedures related to animal care and technical practices.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in English to interpret technical documents and complete routine reports.
  • Basic mathematical skills for data interpretation and measurement calculations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a dynamic setting.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities when working with variable conditions.
  • Capacity to follow instructions delivered in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule formats.
  • Reliable communication with team members and supervisors at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a life science or related field.
  • Prior experience in animal research or a regulated laboratory environment.
  • ALAT certification or equivalent training.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Access, InfoPath, and Project.

This is an on-site role requiring daily presence in the laboratory. The setting is fast-paced and structured, with an emphasis on precision, compliance, and animal welfare. Technicians must be comfortable working with a variety of species and adapting to changing priorities.
