About the Role
This position is central to advancing AI-driven experiences on the platform. You will lead the development of production AI systems—including agentic architectures, RAG pipelines, and LLM integrations—that transform marketplace data into real-time, user-facing features. Your work will directly shape search relevance, recommendation logic, fraud detection, and generative AI capabilities, with broad impact across the product. Embedded within a cross-functional data team, you will bridge research and engineering to deliver scalable, high-performance AI solutions that serve millions of users daily.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement agentic artificial intelligence systems and retrieval-augmented generation pipelines for live marketplace features.
- Incorporate large language models into user-facing functionalities such as search, item categorization, messaging, and safety enforcement.
- Collaborate with data scientists and software engineers to transition experimental models into scalable, deployed products.
- Build next-generation capabilities in search, personalization, and fraud prevention using robust, production-ready AI infrastructure.
- Drive measurable improvements in key business metrics—such as conversion, user retention, and fraud reduction—by operationalizing data-driven insights.
- Lead high-impact initiatives including live RAG systems for smart content discovery, autonomous agent workflows for marketplace automation, and tools for fast, secure LLM deployment.

Compensation Range
$140,000 - $160,000

Vacation needs are flexible and will naturally vary from year to year based on individual circumstances and business needs. In regard to sick time, all full-time employees (exempt and non-exempt) will be granted 12 days (96 hours) of sick time per year (pro-rated if the start date is other than January 1). - All roles will receive equity in OfferUp as part of their compensation, the amount of equity varying depending on the individual’s level and experience.
