Role Overview
The AI Engineer will play a key role in advancing artificial intelligence capabilities for critical national security programs. Based in Chantilly, VA, this position focuses on building and refining AI systems that process vast amounts of structured and unstructured data to deliver actionable insights. The selected candidate will work directly within a secure environment, contributing to high-impact projects that leverage cutting-edge technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and refine AI-powered solutions to address complex operational challenges and improve decision-making processes.
- Acquire and prepare diverse data sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and suitability for training and validating machine learning models.
- Train, evaluate, and fine-tune large language models using modern frameworks and optimization techniques, with continuous iteration based on performance metrics.
- Perform feature engineering by identifying and transforming meaningful variables from raw data to enhance model effectiveness and adaptability.
- Ensure AI models operate reliably in production by implementing monitoring tools that track performance, detect anomalies, and flag degradation over time.
- Produce clear technical documentation outlining system designs, implementation workflows, and best practices for future use.
- Partner with data scientists, software developers, and program stakeholders to define objectives, align on priorities, and deliver functional AI applications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another technical, analytical field.
- Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in machine learning and AI development.
- Proven background applying machine learning to areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, predictive analytics, or recommendation engines.
- Familiarity with Agentic AI frameworks including Langchain, CrewAI, and Pydantics.
- Strong programming skills in Python and Java.
- Ability to work independently under broad guidance while maintaining accountability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with attention to technical accuracy.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Active TS/SCI security clearance with Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI Poly) is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of machine learning methodologies, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep neural networks, reinforcement learning, and ensemble approaches.
- Experience with generative AI and large-scale model deployment pipelines.
- Knowledge of software engineering standards, version control (e.g., Git), and agile project execution.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range for this position is $127,500 to $172,500.
